Ad Swier è nato nel 1948 a Hague. Cresciuto a Scheveningen, vicino al mare ruggente.
Divenuto orfano in tenera età si trasferì in quella che viene chiamata la città di Zwolle.
Si è laureato all’Accademia di Belle Arti (AKI) a Enschede, in Olanda. Dopo la laurea Ad iniziò a lavorare nel campo artistico come designer grafico e illustratore. Ha lavorato per un numero di prestigiose compagnie sia in Europa che
all’estero. E’ sposato e padre di un figlio e una figlia.
Oggi Ad lavora ancora nel campo dell’arte, ma più come libero artista. Dipinge ad acquerello e olio e produce diversi lavori per privati e società. La natura (uccelli e pesci) e i paesaggi sono la sua specialità. Lavora anche come giornalista free-lance e fotografo per un numero di riviste di pesca e un paio di patinate. Ha scritto due libri sulla pesca a mosca: “Passion for Pike” e “A world of Pike flies”. Libri che sono stati apprezzati da pescatori a mosca di tutto il mondo.
Ad è il fondatore della famosa fiera Dutch Fly Fair. La parola Fly Fair è imitata e usata dappertutto ma fu lui a coniarla. L’idea originaria gli venne nel 1984 e la prima fu organizzata nel 1985. Ad è ancora la mente creativa dietro a questa fiera.
Ad Swier was born in 1948 in the Hague. He was raised in Scheveningen, near the roaring sea. Became an orphan at a very young age and that was the reason he landed in what is called the town of ‘Zwolle’.
He pursued a degree in art at the Academy of Fine Arts (AKI) in Enschede, Holland. Upon graduation Ad began to work in the art field as a graphic designer and illustrator. He worked for a number of prestigious companies in Europe and abroad. He married and is a very proud father of a son and a daughter.
Nowadays Ad is still working in the field mentioned above, but more and more as ‘free’ artist. He paints in watercolour or oil. He does a lot of assignment jobs for private persons and businesses. Nature (birds, fishes) and a lot of wide open landscapes are his specialities. He also works with great pleasure as a free-lance journalist and photographer for a number of fishing magazines as well as a couple of big glossies. Wrote two books on fly-fishing; ‘Passion for pike’ and ‘A world of pike flies’. The books were enjoyed by many fly fishermen all over the world.
Ad is the founder of famous Dutch Fly Fair. The word Fly fair is imitated and used all over the place, but he founded the real one. The idea popped up in his brain in 1984 and the first ‘one’ was held in 1985. He still is the creative brain behind the fair.
